It was a privilege to be asked to create the poster and advertising graphics for this year’s Utah State Taekwondo Championship. This marked the 3rd year I had this cool job.
Last year, we had lots of tournaments local to us where I photographed our athletes competing. So I had lots of photos to choose from for the poster. I didn’t want this year’s artwork to be too close to last year’s. I used these two images that I took at two different tournaments.
The image above is of Master Samery Moras sparring (and winning!) at the USATKD American West tournament. I got some awesome shots of her in this match. The image below is of our student Ayuna competing in poomsae at the AAU State Championship. Her front kicks are so pretty!
I redrew both of these images in Procreate on my iPad making them look like an ink sketch and uploaded them into Illustrator to build the poster. I decided some Utah-esque mountains were needed along with a sunset. I like the sketchy blocks of color behind the line drawings. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out.
