My friend Cari is on the PTO at her kiddo’s elementary school in Medford, Oregon. One day she and the school principal, Lara, were discussing the school logo, and how they didn’t like it. Lara had been sent to a local graphic design company that is contracted with the school district, but the concept they created really didn’t wow her.
Lara reached out to me with what they had in mind and I sent her some ideas. They are the Lone Pine Wildcats and they wanted a cat that wasn’t cutesy and juvenile, but she also didn’t want it to be too fierce or scary-looking. Things moved quickly from there and I love how the final logos turned out.
My 11yo suggested making a version where the wildcat is wearing sunglasses and that version was a hit!
Finally, I took the logo artwork and made it into a t-shirt design along with the current school slogan, “Braver, Stronger, Better together.” I suggested printing it on dark green tees and they turned out fantastic. The t-shirts arrived just in time for teachers to wear them at Back to School Night.
Lara also had stickers made with the new logo!
It was such a pleasure working with Lara. I hope her staff us proud of their new logos.
Of course, once we had the logo and a library of variations all figured out, Cari got permission from Lara to use some of the artwork to create a logo for the Lone Pine Elementary PTO. They added graphics to the PTO website and will be making PTO t-shirts in the near future.
